On 24th October 2024, one of our Lestercast team collapsed suddenly at work with no prior warning or symptoms. Unfortunately, the colleague, (who has worked for Lestercast for over 18 years) was showing no signs of breathing or pulse.
Two colleagues within the department (who had previously been First Aid trained as part of our program at Lestercast by 3T Training) were quick to jump in and take control of the situation. Kirsten Purdy, Deputy Team Leader (who has worked for Lestercast for over 13 years) and Ayub Abdi, General Operative (who joined us in December 2022) took it in turns to administer CPR and use our onsite defibrillator. The emergency services arrived, and our colleague was rushed to hospital.
Our colleague has since undergone the necessary heart surgery and is currently recovering at home.
Doctors and paramedics have commented that Kirsten and Ayub’s quick response and decisive action undoubtedly saved our colleagues’ life. Lestercast are very proud and extremely fortunate to have Kirsten and Ayub as part of our team. They really are true heroes.
It just goes to show the importance of First Aid training and the installation of defibrillators, especially in the workplace.
Photos below & left show Kirsten & Ayub being presented with a personal letter of gratitude from the Directors, a gift and a custom-made award from Lestercast.
